The demand was to increase the penalties under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Animal Welfare Advocates from Telangana came together and held a candlelight vigil on April 21 between 6.00 and 7.30pm, to mourn the passing of police service horse, Shaktiman, and demanded a revision in the penalties for animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
