A campaign to end the trail of cruelty in the transportation, handling, maintaining of hens in the process of slaughter, was flagged off by People for Animals at Old Bowenpally on 23rd May 2013.
An awareness meeting was held at the GHMC ward office at old bowenpally. This was presided by the GHMC Asst Dir West Zone, Dr. Abdul Vakil, Dr. Radhakrishna, Dr. Gupta and Sub Inspector of Bowenpally PS, Mohd. Ejajuddin.
Mrs. Vasanthi Vadi, Secretary, PFA, Mr. Dattatreya Joshi, Mr. Srikanth, Mr. Manoj Khurana, Mrs.Janaki, Mrs. Chitra, Mr. Mahesh and some volunteers were present. All chicken shop vendors of Bowenpally actively participated in the proceedings. Dr. Vakil explained about the requirements of a chicken shop as per the GHMC rules. He also explained the penal action that could be taken on errant shop owners. The subinspector explained the law and the action that could be taken under the Prevention of Cruelty Act.
Mrs. Vasanthi Vadi explained about the constitutional rights of the birds and the necessity to uphold the law of the land. Mr.Sreekanth reiterated the do’s and don’ts that ought to be followed by all chicken shop owners.
All the chicken shop owners responded positively and agreed wholeheartedly to follow the rules and not violate the rights of the birds.
