87 camels that were being taken for slaughter were rescued by PFA Hyderabad team led by Executive Officer Mr. Dattatraya Joshi; at Turumamidi village under Bantwaram police station jurisdiction and mandal Ranga Reddy District yesterday. Special thanks to GSPCA, Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh and other senior volunteers like Srinivas Rao and Shantilalji.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused, who are middlemen from Mansatour town, Madhya Pradesh, who made the camels travel on foot all the way from Rajasthan to Hyderabad, to sell them for slaughter at the meat markets. The police custody of the animals has been granted to PFA. On Saturday, Vikarabad junior first class magistrate sent the 9 accused camel handlers to Cherlapally jail in remand for two weeks.
Illegal transportation of camels is a violation of IPC section 429, PC Act and Transport rules. The Rajasthan Camel (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Bill, 2015 makes causing injury to camel punishable. Camel slaughter is punishable for up to five years and monetary fine.. Camel meat is not a notified item of food, as per the provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
This adds another victory to PFA Hyderabad, who had rescued 63 camels last year as well, and transported them against all odds, all the way from Hyderabad to Rajasthan.
